First steps in Scotland
Professor Socadinho began capoeira in Dundee in 2000 with Mestre Gatuno. The following year he took part in his batizado in Edinburgh, with Mestre Toni and under the supervision of Mestre Gato.
After training in the Netherlands, he returned to Scotland in 2003 and rejoined Senzala Scotland. His continuing training involved Mestre Pedro, Professor Zé-Galinha and later Mestre Gato in Edinburgh.
Building capoeira communities
He founded Senzala Dundee in 2006 and Senzala St Andrews in 2007. A visit to Brazil in 2008 took him to the Senzala academy in Rio de Janeiro, where he trained with Mestre Peixinho and Mestre Toni.
Travel and workshops have been part of his development, connecting his teaching with the experience of other capoeiristas. In 2010 he founded Capoeira Senzala Sheffield, continuing to share what he had learned through training and teaching.
An educational perspective
The school’s original biography describes a background in primary and secondary physical education and lecturing at Manchester Metropolitan University. It connects that educational experience with an understanding of different approaches to learning and teaching.
The Sheffield school focuses on enjoyable, challenging capoeira for children and adults.
